I hate being back in Wyoming. I hate a war getting in the way of my work in Israel. I hate the one-sided judgements on Israel and the Lebanese. I hate the distance between my friends and I. I hate the isolation from mediums such as this. I hate the isolation forced by language. I hate the television, more than anything else, dictating but not receiving.

I wish I could write something supremely inspiring after working with Palestinians, Israelis, nand Europeans durring that war at Tel Megiddo. I wish I could just reduce the war to something as simple as religion, ethnicity, or international law. But I can't. They're all individuals and I'll be damned if I can take a side. Whether weakness or wisdom, I just hope the survivors don't hate each other too much.

My initial response to this article was yes, he should be impeached - and I do still feel that. However, the argument that an individual uses is as important as their conclusion. It has been over half a century since the Holocaust, and we are already blaming Jews for our internal political problems? The repeated references to "Zionist leaders" and Israel's master plan to initiate a nuclear holocaust are not just fundamentally anti-Semitic, they are downright immobilizing to all of us trying to affect real change in our government. No argument that is racially or religiously motivated should persuade our fellow citizens, or we lose a far greater battle by allowing ancient prejudice to dominant our minds and national policy. Hitler himself referenced a "liberal and Jewish press" as being a principle problem in Post-World War I Germany. This is how incredible discrimination begins, and as human beings we have the obligation to recognize such polemic speech when it begins. No one religious group is our problem, whether they be Jewish, Christian, or Muslim.

We don't need a "Zionist conspiracy" to impeach Bush; we don't have to have a larger network of a "New World Order." These are not good (or realistic) justifications for enacting constitutional procedure against our head of state. Rather, we need to re-focus on undecided voters and push our cause (and victories) to make this a better country. We need to look at people as individuals and address our policies as such. The more Democrats focus on topics such as Universal Health Care, education, and our stronger stance on fiscal responsibility, we will win in the long run. Gigerich and his "Republican Revolution" knew that, and that's why they acted as they did to change the debate. We all have the responsibility, from coffee houses to phone conversations, to change it back.

It has often been said by opponents of our tyrannical state, that what with all the spying, investigating, and recordkeeping our criminal government is gathering on US to silence dissent and opposition, the bureaucrats and organized gangsters will eventually choke and be strangled by their desired overabundance of information on Americans. They will simply be inundated with so much information that it will become impossible for them to manage or to act efficiently upon it in order to eradicate dissent.
But the same can also be said of the analogous mountain ranges of facts, photos, documented physical impossibilities and videos comprising irrefutable evidence that confirms the worst suspicions now virtually held by all Americans, suspicions that grow stronger with each day that the Bush regime increasingly continues its unrelenting quest to destroy America's national sovereignty. For to comply with the Zionist direction the Bush regime and the US Congress have been given, America must be totally destroyed and replaced by a mere geographic global area to successfully establish the New World Order.

It was a bomb shelter under the White House called the Presidential Emergency Operations Center. Cheney supposedly coordinated response to the attacks. The lack of such focus then, requires it all the more now. \n\nIf it was a foul-up, or a major unbelievable screw-up, and one that failed to have an emergency back-up fail-safe system, what would be the real harm in the American people knowing that? The American people are very forgiving, but are becomingly increasingly astute as concerns the failings and bumbling of their government. In fact, their awareness of the unbelievable range of ever-expanding lies of the Bush regime is rapidly increasing and confirmed by Bush\'s falling poll numbers. The crime machine is redlining in terms of an urgency that desperately needs immediate national action. And as offered previously, this action needs to come from a sector other than corrupt American politics or government. \n\nThe proof in the pudding that 9-11 was an inside job perpetrated by the Bush international crime machine against its own people is easily confirmed, both by Cheney\'s angry response to the aide as overheard by Mineta, and the fact that stand downs were indeed in place. But in addition to that, aircraft that could have responded, were not only redeployed further from response capability, but were part and parcel of the very same non-deployment/response "drill." The drill wasn\'t a drill ­ it was a setup. Redeploying potentially respondent aircraft meant controlling "loose cannon" military aviators who would possibly act on their own and not await orders from Rumsfeld and Cheney\'s "perfumed princes" in the political military. \n",1]

Norman Mineta is not just some insignificant bureaucrat in the Bush administration. His testimony seems honest and straightforward. In fact, it was so honest and straightforward on that issue of an ongoing drill or drills, it should have been highlighted to such an extent that it could easily have ended all further inquiry. The lack of such focus then, requires it all the more now.
If it was a foul-up, or a major unbelievable screw-up, and one that failed to have an emergency back-up fail-safe system, what would be the real harm in the American people knowing that? The American people are very forgiving, but are becomingly increasingly astute as concerns the failings and bumbling of their government. In fact, their awareness of the unbelievable range of ever-expanding lies of the Bush regime is rapidly increasing and confirmed by Bush's falling poll numbers. The crime machine is redlining in terms of an urgency that desperately needs immediate national action. And as offered previously, this action needs to come from a sector other than corrupt American politics or government.
The proof in the pudding that 9-11 was an inside job perpetrated by the Bush international crime machine against its own people is easily confirmed, both by Cheney's angry response to the aide as overheard by Mineta, and the fact that stand downs were indeed in place. But in addition to that, aircraft that could have responded, were not only redeployed further from response capability, but were part and parcel of the very same non-deployment/response "drill." The drill wasn't a drill ­ it was a setup. Redeploying potentially respondent aircraft meant controlling "loose cannon" military aviators who would possibly act on their own and not await orders from Rumsfeld and Cheney's "perfumed princes" in the political military.
\nFinally, consider this: What part of Cheney, Rove and Rumsfeld\'s 9-11 stand-down drill involved casualty estimates and demographics? Said another way, was there any attempt to reduce the intended human slaughter by these worst of the world\'s criminals? Surprisingly, the answer is yes. It's a full moon tonight, it reminds me of being at Mission Bay in San Diego, wandering aimlessly across the shore. It's been seven since that trip, and each time I look at how far I've come, what new things I've learned, and what new people I've pissed off. Argh, that sounds a little cynical.

Well, last weekend was the Wyoming State Democratic Party meeting, but was more of an unofficial one. For whatever reason they have an official bi-annual meeing during non-election years. Seems inneffective on two fronts. Anyway, I'll be working on the Young Democrat's platform, namely re-word-smithing women's reproductive rights into it. We had a bit of a debate about it, but in the end I won out - and now it's my job to get it in there.

The second half of the dinner was much more exciting. It was the Governor's Dinner, and I got to meet the Dave Freudenthal, Wyoming's current governor. He is from Thermopolis too, and I mentioned finding an old article of his when we were starting up a new school newspaper down there (The newspaper was ironically titled "The Predator" as a jab at me being Vegan). I also met Gary Trowner, the candidate running against Barbara Cubin - I hope to volunteer on his campaign. The candidate for the Senate is Dale Groutage - I actually met him a few weeks ago in the UW student union, and gave him a copy of our 44 page petition. Both he and his wife remembered my name - that being the high point of that week. Also present was Governor Vissack of Iowa, who is suspected to be running for president in 2008 (though it's just speculation). I asked him how he won over Iowa, a traditionally Republican state. He said that they used the campaign slogan "It's time to rotate the crops", which is probably the best phrase I've ever heard, and the most germane considering Wyoming's current layout. Anyway, the dinner was wonderful, it was in celebration of Ann Robinson's victory in abolishing the food tax for Wyoming citizens for the next two years. All and all the past budget session was an overwhelming success for the Democratic party, despite being a minority in representation.

However, after that night and the last brush of tests (9 in a month!), I've been doing very little other than reading, pacing, working in the arch lab (which is where I'm writing now...or then), and finishing up an invertebrate database for WYNDD. I also half-heartedly started an English-Greek dictionary - it's easy to do while watching movies. I've put in about 750 entries so far, but there are thousands upon thousands more to do.

Well, I'll probably hop off now given that there isn't much to do - I left my supplies at the apartment and the sample for the second unit won't download, so there's nothing to do. At any rate, I'll write again as infrequently as I do already.

We arrived on January 4th, and left on the tenth. In between my life changed. The place has been called a drug, and now I see why. Each day counted as a month, as a whole it was more of a semester than a week. Talking to Palestinians and IDF officers... all too much. I don't know why the ADL choose us, or what made us special. But damn, just damn.

When the El Al plane lifted off New York soil and went אל על, I couldn't help but feel a disconect with reality. I had rarely ventured outside Wyoming, let alone Israel. The morning in the plane was surreal, dawn's light drifting through the window, gently grazing the shoulders of orthodox Jews praying. On the map before me I could see our plane flew over Rome, Αθενης, Κρετε, and finaly in the distance תל אביב.

Walking in Ben Gurion airport, sheltered indoors... I couldn't wait to get outside. There we met ופיר who would lead us throughout the rest of the week. The night ride to Jerusalem (ירושלים) made reality plainly clear: This was a very, very small country. More so than I could imagine. This entire area could fit in the space between Casper and Cody Wyoming easily.

ירושלים is built out of white limestone, roughly cut, much like the University of Wyoming is of browner material (see the above photo). The old city is clearly of ancient design, only people can walk through the streets. There are cats everywhere, it was surprising the individualistic touch this put on what was otherwise mostly history. The Ottoman walls and guard towers have evolved into resteraunts. The market is a bit of a labrinth, with people assainling you with manipulation to entice you into their stores. I ended up spending 300 or so sheckles on gifts (not as much as it sounds). You would be eating comfortably as the call to prayr sounds from the Dome on the Rock. What surprised me is that the call began with a woman's voice, waving like a flag through the speakers set around the area. ופיר was saying something at the time, but I lost all connect with him as the voice sang over the Holy Seplechre, over the Wailing Wall. ירושלים is a far older city than indicated by the תנייך, when walking along the recently excavated portions of the wall you can look down and see pillars of a far older civilization... it seems that the Temple of the Mount is itself built on a previous religious site. This occurs often in Israel, where cities are built upon each other due to localized sources of water, as well as strategically placed defenses.

Few people know what happened here, or to what extend the legend are true. However, in this picture you can see a Roman fort just right of the circular rim of Herod's defenses at Masada. Allegedly Flavius Silvas assailed this Hebrew bastion after the fall of the second temple at the hands of Titus. A group of loyal Jews fled to the desert of the נגו, and then split into two groups. One would hide their identity and merge with Roman society while faithfully following their religion, these people seem to have been the ones to leave the Dead Sea Scrolls. A more orthodox group flet to Masada, and lived there for three years. Flavius Silvas was then sent to destroy it, and built a huge ramp to the site. Upon entering it, he found all but the storerooms on fire, and 1,000 dead people. As a last resort, they had resorted to mass killings to avert capture by the Romans by drawing lots. The last person committed suicide.

The Dead Sea (ים מלח) put a disturbingly light touch on everything. Otherwise I was somber. No, somber isn't the right word. In awe. So much of Israel's countryside looked like Wyoming that it was difficult to drawn concrete distinctions. Particularly after visiting Masada. The ים מלח is known for it's unusually high salt content, allowing you to float. For the same reason, don't swallow the water. The mud is said to rejuvenate you to a younger person (said by who?), and covered in it we all pretended to be statues (I'm in the center with the arm raised). Beach Boys music played from loudspeakers nearby, and there was an incredibly relaxing ambience. Later, when eating lunch at Qumran, we still felt the reverbarations of the Dead Sea.

It all ended in the same city it began, Tel Aviv. Remember the Tels? They symbolize the antiquity of the region. Tel Aviv has no archaeology (other than nearby Jaffo), instead Aviv means spring. It is the first layer of a new city. And by the Mediterranian, it all quietly ebbed into the sea. Israel, like the shore of the Mediterranian, is always changing. But it follows the same basic pattern along the familiar shores.

The ADL contacted me just before Thanksgiving Break, I'm off to Israel after Christmas. It's the first time in my life I'm looking forward to early January rather than Christmas. Weee. The Latin alphabet can't contain my enthusiasm.

Anyway, I'm alone in the Arch. lab, lit by a single light. It casts a wierd glow on a goat skeleton that's staring at me right now. I mean really, how many people spend their holidays in a lab with a dead goat? On an entymological note, the word Tragedy stems from the word αιγοσ, tragedy actually means "goat song", the goat being loved by the 'Ελληνσ for it's *cough* potency.

Actually, I'm really just distracting myself. I think I need a distraction from life right now. Last week, that damn House resolution passed, dramatically slashing at student loans. Our beloved representative Cubin of Wyoming voted for it. At the same time the Senate added $60 billion in tax cuts. Effectively, students will be funding this tax cut for the wealthy, while New Orleans still lies in ruins. Fucking bastards. Anyway, if you've kept up with my infrequent blog posts, this also means that my efforts in collecting 10% of UW's student population's signatures on a petition was useless - once again, Cubin represents Republicans, not Wyoming. This feeling of futility caused me to reflect on life, and for reasons beyond me, Elodie was at the forefront. All weekend I couldn't stop thinking of her. It's been over a year since we last saw each other at the Cody airport, but losing her finally caught up to me. Losing a lot of things finally caught up to me.

I rifled through old photos from the Wyoming Dinosaur Center, and felt horrible. Oh - about that - as it turns out, after telling me that site WDC-TYA was no longer to be funded, they went ahead and funded it after I left. They had a grad student work out there all summer and find...

...nothing. They dug in under burden, i.e. beneath the site, for three months. All that talk about how horrible of an excavator I was (pulling 160+ bones in one season almost by myself), was thrown out with the rock at my old allosaur site. In fact, they did find a single bone, a cervical vertebra when widening their impotent pit. From what I hear, the curator was really mad, has all but fired those involved, and has offered me my old job back. I... I don't know what I'm going to do, I suppose press harder for Israel in the summer (as opposed to Israel in the winter), but I'm struck with indecision. It ties back to Elodie, how could I go back... when I look at everything including my over-reliance on Scott for judgement, I just want to cut my losses and run. And if I did go back, who would I be? I wouldn't be the same paleo-nut, I've moved on from that. I don't know what I want to do, or what I'm going to do. Perhaps I shouldn't confuse Elodie with the Dinosaur Center, it's easy, but two very, very different things that happen to live in the same place in my heart.

Maybe Israel will help me sort it all out... it's weird, the news hasn't hit me yet. I still can't comprehend receiving this honor. And I won't have the time with finals week comming up. In the time between, it'll be back to languages for me.

1071 at the end

So, I haven't posted in forever, but for good reason. I've been working on a petition with fellow Dems in Laramie against House Resolution 609. This nasty bit of legislation would have introduced a variable student loan interest rate that had the potential of costing millions of students thousands of dollars each school year. It's now part of a larger set of budgetary cuts that are currently a hot topic this comming week. We've got 1071 signatures on the petitions, representing 11.5% or so of the Undergraduate population of UW. The petition is 42 pages long, representing 3 weeks worth of bugging people in and outside of class.

I got copies faxed to Senator Mike Enzi and Representative Barbara Cubin, costing me a little over $45 - I hope it's money well spent. Enzi is chair of the Education, Labor, and Pension committee for the Senate and - in a rare turn of events - Cubin could be a critical vote in the House. Currently all Dems are suppose to vote against new budgetary cuts, 202 of them in all. If that proves true, 13 Republican votes are all that stand in the way of it's passage. As such, in both the House and the Senate, Wyoming citizens have a grossly disproportionate influence on these budgetary votes. My fingers are crossed that they will listen. Enzi will - he's proven his willingness to listen in the past. I'm very hesitent about Cubin, perhaps pushing a calling campaign for next week will help.

In my non-H.R. 609 life, I've επεπαιδεθμαι 'Ελλην πολυν τω βιβλω. I'm enjoying the progress so far, I'm currently translating Lysistrata and Herodotus' 6th history. My archaeology research is going well, I spend weekends alone in the Arch. lab playing audiobooks and counting the hinge vs. step fractured flakes on the dorsal sections of larger flakes. Wee.

Oh, and interesting news. Last night durring our statistics test, I was stressing completley. I was working on the binomial equation when all of a sudden BRRRRRRIIIIINNNNGGGGG! The fire alarm went off. The room was evacuated, and the test cancelled. Upon checking my test, which had been finished, I had done all the math correctly, kind of a shame. But stats are going well, so is physics. I never thought I would do well in math classes, in physics I have one of the highest grades in the class (more than 100% on both tests so far). My fingers are crossed for the next.

Anyway, more tests next week, more papers, and the House vote. I would say I can't wait for this semester to end, but I have a sneaking suspicion that another one is following it.
